If you are looking for a surf holiday in Morocco, whether it’s a long weekend with your partner or a couple weeks of solid solo surfing, Errant has some amazing options! Here is a closer look at our choice for the best surf and yoga camp in Imsouane, Morocco, SandyCamps!

SandyCamps really is an oasis in more than one sense!

Started with a simple but earnest goal of creating a space that was more than just a surf and yoga camp. They believe (and we agree) that by combining the authentic lifestyles of surfing and yoga in this rugged and beautiful natural environment can lead to ‘deep and unforgettable emotions’.

The idea for SandyCamps was thought up many years ago by co-founder Marcel, who has spent over 20 years surfing up and down the Moroccan coast. Back then Imsouane was only home to a few fishermen and the only thing in the lineup were seagulls. After taking a few months holiday in France, Marcel met his future wife and co-founder Sandra and the few months turned into 5 years spent between France, Spain and the Netherlands. Setting up base in Imsouane in 2016, Sandycamps opened to the world in 2017 and continues to develop and grow their own unique brand of Moroccan surf and yoga camps.

Imsouane should be considered one of Morocco’s hidden gems in terms of surf spots. North of Taghazout and South of Essaouira, the small sleepy town is hidden off the main track between the mountains and the ocean. It has yet to become the massive tourist pull on the same level as it’s neighbouring towns, meaning you can get a real sense of traditional Moroccan life.

Wake up to the birds singing amongst the eucalyptus and palm trees in the camps lush garden, join in on a gentle yoga session to wake up smoothly. Then continue this great start to the day with a tasty breakfast served in the restaurant, with fresh bread, fresh fruits, Moroccan Amlou and much more. Everything you need to set you up for a day surfing.

After breakfast, head to the beach for the first surf session, James will lead the warm-up with his famous tap and wiggle moves to get you ready for a great time in one of the best surf spots in the World. Surf lesson groups are split by ability and have a maximum ratio of 8 surfers per instructor, and with 4 world class surf breaks within Imsouane that are perfect for beginners and advanced surfers alike, all lessons are carefully planned to get you the most time in the water surfing and maximise your progression.

After all this activity, come back to the camp for a delicious tajine and Moroccan salad lunch with everybody to compare wipeouts from the morning’s surf lessons followed by a well-deserved siesta around the pool. Go back for another surf in the Magic bay in the afternoon, or just relax at the beach with a mint tea for a proper Moroccan surf holiday feel.

Stretch out your muscles and unwind with the evening yoga, the perfect way to finish your day with asanas to stretch and slow down your pace. The whole team will be waiting for you at dinner for a family-style three-course meal. If you’re looking for some evening entertainment with you surf holiday then once again SandyCamps has you covered with a relaxing bar on site that serve both local and international drinks as well as hosting live musical performances.

A stay at SandyCamps really is an amazing experience that allows you to disconnect from your daily life, while immersing you in the beautiful natural scenery and lifestyle, all making for some truly unforgettable and fun times!
