Spring is in the air, heck Summer is poking its big beautiful nose around the corner, bringing with it hope and dreams of surfing in warmer climes.
With temperatures heating up, it’s time to get excited about a balmy break. Europe has a huge host of family friendly options, it’s Indo time for the more selfish surfer, even spreading your wings to a new part of the UK and getting some Vitamin Sea will be good for your soul.
Regardless of budget and time, here are my favourite Summer Surf Trips guaranteed to replenish your stoke levels until it’s time for the Winter Trip again…
Lagos Surf House, Algarve, Portugal
The original and the best surf camp in Lagos are still doing their thing and offering surfing holidays that will leave you stoked and booking your return before it’s even over. It’s hard to describe how good the vibes are, you have to check it out for yourself. Oh and the waves are also equally as epic…
Atlantic Riders Surf Lodges, Arrifana, Portugal
You get a real sense of adventure in this part of Portugal. It’s only a half hour drive from the party town Lagos, yet feels a million miles away. Secret spots galore combined with rustic, clean and spacious accommodation makes it a perfect couples / family Summer surf break.
Latas Surf House, Northern Spain
Such a good spot, set in a beautiful part of Northern Spain on the Camino De Santiago, yet a short stroll from the playful beach break Playa De Somo. Good fun for single travellers, couples, even families. Go here for a week of surfing fun and become a part of the Latas Surf Family.
Welcome to the heart of the European surfing. This stretch of coastline is home to some of the surf beach breaks in the world. With miles and miles of waves for all levels. It’s also home to a very French, family friendly vibe. Think riding bicycles as the sun rises to the bakery to grab your morning croissants, mid morning surfs with no one around, lunch time stubbies, brie, bread and good wine for less that a bottle of water.
Canggu Surf Camp, Bali
Indonesia is on the top of every surfer’s list with Bali being the numero uno spot, for good reason. From April to September Bali gets consistent swell and has dozens of world class waves all within driving distance of Kuta. Kuta itself is absolutely mental but Canggu, 25mins up the road offers a more mellow, chilled vibe, with a sucky beach break and very fun left hander all a stones through away from the Surf Camp. For intermediate / experienced surfers only, who want that tropical fix but don’t want to get too feral…
Newquay Surf & Stay!
WHY NOT? Holidays at home are the bomb, you drive down with a car full of your stuff / mates / family, know exactly what you’re spending, there’s no time difference and Newquay is still numero uno surfing destination in the UK, and for good reason. If it goes flat you can SUP around the headland or down the Gannel, or frequent one of many public houses…
