Errant Team Riders

When it’s ok to Drop in

I have pleasure of introducing to you Josh Coombes. Having spent the best part of the last 14 years surfing at Watergate Bay in Newquay, I have known Josh since he was a wee-nipper. As I celebrated my 30th last year nurturing a beer belly, Josh has been coming of age busting it out on his Kite board and surf board.

Recently joining the international team for Flexifoil Kite Surf, he posted this clip of him using the Go Pro camera (HD Pro 2) today.

Now don’t get me wrong, … Continue Reading

Quiksilver Pro Update

Round 2 of the Quiksilver Pro France ran today then paused, due to the forecast showing 10ft waves headed for Europe’s surfing capital this weekend. Quiksilver made a wise choice in Mickey Picon as the contest director, because only locals can predict conditions resulting from a 20ft tide swing. The sandbank that competitors surf at the start of their heat can turn into shore-pounding sand-surge in a half-hour.

Already in round 1 & 2 a record breaking seven board were snapped in a single heat, and the currents challenged surfers to even make it to the line-up. 3-time event champ … Continue Reading

What does the new ASP Rules mean for Pro-Surfing?

Whether you like the new changes to the ASP World Tour or you hate them, the fact of the matter is that they’ve happened and they are here to stay (or at least for now). Lets get one thing straight though, the overall rules haven’t been changed. You still need to win every heat from the Quarter Finals, highest score still wins, priority etc still applies.

Skiing on waves. Surfing a new level.

Chuck Patterson had grown up skiing dangerous big-mountain terrain; he had also surfed plenty of large, thunderous waves.

But never, until recently, had he or anyone else donned skis and used them to surf the gargantuan swells at a notoriously treacherous spot called Jaws, off the Hawaiian island of Maui.

Patterson, a popular freeskier and trained racer from Lake Tahoe, who spends part of each winter in Hawaii, traveled to Jaws recently to greet an arriving swell (see video). Dozens of tow-surfers, those who are pulled onto fast-moving swells behind personal watercraft, were on hand. Patterson was the only one wearing two … Continue Reading

Errant Team Rider Hits Cover of Carve Surf Magazine

Exactly one year today Errant Surf team rider Mitch Corbett was in a coma. He was stable, but in a serious condition with a potentially life threatening head injury. Even if it didn’t kill him no one knew how it would affect his life.

It was a shocking time. Mitch had been on a high after a really good session at 10′s that made the main feature of Carve. Then came the head injury. It hit everyone who knew him hard. The lad has no ego, no enemies and never a … Continue Reading
