Rick returns from Loredo, Spain..

I’m pleased to say that all the feedback I can give on this trip is positive.

To be honest I thought I was booking into a surfing hostel – and I’ve recently been to some of these in Newquay… La Hosteria de Latas is nothing like these places, and more like a 4 star hotel. What it does have in common with hostels, however, is the friendly guests and great staff. The bar has a great mix of friendly locals and international guests, and the beer is cold and cheap.

The Hosteria also has some excellent food, running barbecues and Carlos’s legendary paella nights at least once each every week. However, there are also some very good and cheap local restaurants in Loredo, and more expensive, and not as good, restaurants in Somo.

This was an excellent trip, I would recommend it to anyone, and I’m certain to go back next year.

One thing that may be worth considering would be the ability to hire boards from the Hosteria. While there is a lot of places to hire boards in Somo, they tend to be NSP boards. A few decent surftec shapes or similar which could be hired from the hostel or the surf school would be really useful.

Hi,
I originally booked errant in hostelaria de latas in Loredo Northern Spain for four nights but I ended up staying for an extra two nights. The staff were very helpful and approachable. The atmosphere and the vibe in the hostel was excellent. I travelled on my own and it was real easy to hook up and socialise with other surf travellers.

My only complaint would be the internet. The were no terminals in the hostel and there were no terminals in Loredo nor in Somo. Anyway the staff in the hostel were kind enough to let me use their personal laptops.

Hi Luke,

Thanks for the feedback. We are in the process of setting up stand alone PC’s, to sit inline with the free WIFI on offer at La Hosteria de Latas. This should allow checking the surf, Facebook and e-mail use much easier for customers.
