Amazing Mother Nature

For the third time in the last 6 days, another line of nasty storms rolled through Chicago on Wednesday evening. I love coming home and being able to watch and capture nature’s beauty from my balcony. In this clip you will see three of the tallest buildings in Chicago get struck by lightning at the same time. Willis Tower (Tallest), Trump International Hotel and Tower (2nd Tallest) and the John Hancock Building(4th tallest).

HD Video was shot on a Canon EOS 7D. Video was edited with Sony Vegas Movie Studio.

“Wed’s storms towered up to 63,000 ft, unleashed 80 mph gusts, local … Continue Reading

When England Play, I Go Surfing.

Every time England plays, I go surfing.

Yesterday was no exception. Perfect head high surf, little winds and stunning sunshine. You would expect Fistral to be packed. Luckily England was playing Slovenia. While Capello’s boys were busy chasing balls, I was busy chasing the set waves.

Surfing could not be any further from football in terms of pursuits. Football is a team game, full of money (debt), fixed borders, fixed time frame, rules and regulations.

Surfing is an individual endeavour, no borders, no time frame and the only rule is not to … Continue Reading

How to sleep on a long haul flight

How to sleep on a long haul flight

by John Graham Cumming

To the annoyance of people around me I have no trouble sleeping on long haul flights. And I don’t take any fancy medication to do so. Having traveled a lot I’ve come to the conclusion that sleeping on a plane is a matter of attitude and a little preparation. This post is not for people who travel business or first class. It’s for the average stiff who, like me, travels hundreds of thousands of miles in economy class.

First the gear. I put this here because everyone thinks that buying stuff … Continue Reading

New British Surf Association Executive Committee

There is currently an election in process for the BSA Executive Committee. If you’ve got an opinion on the BSA, or are interested in the future on British Surfing, I’d encourage you to review the candidates and register your vote in due course. Myself (Chris Phillips, Finance), Chris Thomson (Chairman), Simon Tucker (Performance) and Geoff Swallow/Ben Ridding (Joint Candidates, Strategy) have been working hard to ensure a fair and democratic election takes place. We’re all passionate about British Surfing, and want to see the BSA move forward.

Have a look at our CV’s and Manifesto’s. The BSA will be … Continue Reading

Little England

When I first arrived at Soup Bowl, Barbados, it was love at first sight.

It was the world as I might’ve drawn it in the back of my Maths book in primary school when I was a surf-crazed kid with skinny legs and sun-bleached blond hair. This amazing wave is one of many on this tiny island but it is Soup Bowl that attracts surfers from all over the world. Framing the break are Bathsheba’s colossal Lord of the Rings rock formations, green-topped and mushroom-shaped, more extravagant than anything I ever sketched.

Barbados is often described in brochures … Continue Reading

Customer Feedback – Morocco

The holiday (Hash Point Morocco) was fantastic, and I was very impressed with the way things were run and organised. The instructors were really good; really helped me progress my surfing and everyone was amazed by how much attention and feed-back the surf instructors  were able to give everyone on an individual level.  When the waves weren’t great they would always do the best to ensure we found ourselves in the best possible location even if that involved travelling a bit of a distance. The actual surf lodge was not only really beautiful and relaxing but had an excellent group … Continue Reading

Indolerium Teaser

On a Sunday morning in December 2009 Top Britsh Surfer Mitch Corbett was found unconscious yards from his house in Newquay. The initial assessment by paramedics was unclear and within hours Mitch took a turn for the worse. Shocked friends and family could only wait and hope as Mitch was rushed into emergency brain-surgery with a massive bleed on the brain. 3 Days later Mitch came out of his coma to the relief of everyone hoping and praying to see him again. After 9 days Mitch was discharged from Derriford Hospital Intensive care and spent Christmas at home with … Continue Reading

Paddle4Relief 2010 – The Outcome!

Some words from Tim Tanton on this weekend’s Paddle 4 Relief sponsored by Errant Surf Holidays.

After a long haul in planning and organising this years Big Paddle Event, the deed is done! A long day saw a small entry in both the race and the social paddle! The decline in numbers did not see a decline in fund raising! Sunday 30th May saw £2590.06 raised on the day, with a further £300-£400 due in sponsorship!

The rain held off and the wind was charitable as all the paddlers completed both the events without injury or failure.

Massive thanks must … Continue Reading
