Life Savers, Stags and Cross Steppers

Life Savers, Stags and Cross Steppers

Busy day today at our surf school in Newquay. We had the final lifeguard exam for our March “Cross Step” Course, 8 young people out of work and education have been trained to become British Surfing Association surf coaches and NARS Beach Lifeguards since the start of March, at no cost to them.

Today was the full exam NARS Beach Lifeguard Award, and everyone did extremely well in the surf and on land. Especially Megan Burns, who despite only training on the rescue boards since 1st March had one examiner commenting on her being the “strongest female in the water” he had seen for some time.

We also hosted the guys from Watergate Bay as they re-qualified as beach lifeguards. Vince Timson, Errant’s head lifeguard trainer sneaked in some real life scenarios for the seasoned lifeguards, including a sneaky casualty in the rocks.

While all this was going on Chris was coaching the stag group who were staying up the road at the  Newquay surf lodge. Despite some soar heads the boys did well and most stood up. No doubt the boys will be practicing the same moves tonight, but on the dance floor of Sailors!
