This might make you cry..

So I’m sat feeling pretty “surfed out”, we had a cool family come surf with us this morning in Newquay, some cracking little waves. Then I headed back out to Watergate to get the high tide session, again fun little waves. After an hour defrosting in the shower grabbed my laptop and started “surfing” around trying my best to avoid watching Eastenders, when I came across this video from Tahiti of Manoa Drollet. It is his entry into the Billabong Big Wave Awards which run every year.

It certainly put my chilled high tide Watergate Bay surf into perspective. … Continue Reading

Best Office in the World?

Quite a claim I know, but we think we might have one of the best office locations around. From our office we can check the surf, and today its looking rather nice, a little small but worth a lunch time splash. Our surf school, which is located next door is now open in Newquay for the summer. So if you fancy learning to surf in Newquay, or improving your surf skills with a private lesson get in touch and we can help plan your surfing holiday in Newquay this year.

Where’s Zinon?

If you have had the pleasure of having a surf lesson from Chris Zinon in Newquay or La Hosteria in Spain you may wonder where he has been over the last year. Well the lucky bugger moved to Australia and has been living it up ever since. Including a recent trip to Indonesia, check out Chris’ video from Lakey Peak in Indonesia.

How Did I Get Into Surfing?

Joe Koa tells Errant Surf Holidays how he fell in love with surfing.

Surfing was something that always attracted me, and ironically it was my involvement with classic Volkswagens that first got me into surfing. Bored of buying parts for my dilapidated ’73 beetle on a popular classic car forum, I stumbled upon a post to buy a shortboard, 6’6, for just £80. Being a cheeky git at 17, I offered the guy a swap for some model volkswagen split screens and £50, to which he … Continue Reading

Life Savers, Stags and Cross Steppers

Busy day today at our surf school in Newquay. We had the final lifeguard exam for our March “Cross Step” Course, 8 young people out of work and education have been trained to become British Surfing Association surf coaches and NARS Beach Lifeguards since the start of March, at no cost to them.

Today was the full exam NARS Beach Lifeguard Award, and everyone did extremely well in the surf and on land. Especially Megan Burns, who despite only training on the rescue boards since 1st March had one examiner commenting on her being … Continue Reading

Move! Im going surfing…

Every time I drive for a surf in full knowledge it is going to be amazing I seem to get stuck behind just about every possible slow moving vehicle!

It had been pretty small over the last few weeks in Newquay, and finishing up with our Cross Step course yesterday I decided to nip over to Watergate Bay for a quick high tide surf.

No joke, every single traffic light en-route turned red just as I approached. I got stuck behind an old lady who could barely see over the steering wheel, luckily she carried on … Continue Reading

Let Your iPhone Choose Your Surfboard

Choosing the correct surfboard and equipment can be a confusing and complex experience. This application will help make sense of the shape and design features that make up a surfboard – from rocker to roll, rails to tails, fins to foils – and assist in making the best, most informed choice from a multitude of possibilities.

It also gives an overview and explanation of the best equipment to go along with a surfboard to make the most of the surfing experience.

Shaun started surfing way back in 1965 and over the years has taught hundreds of people how to surf. … Continue Reading

Open Letter to BSA from Mr Sturt

Dear Member,

My name is Andy Sturt, for the last 30 years I have been a member of the BSA, I am a Level 4 Surfing Coach, as well as served as English and British Team Manager. I am writing this letter to inform you the wider membership of grave concerns I have with the management style of the incumbent BSA Executive Committee. I am not alone in my concerns with the BSA as has been witnessed on the Facebook website.

I prefer to keep this letter brief and focus on just one area of mismanagement which I believe to be a … Continue Reading

Insiders Info – Lanzarote

Want to know more about your next surfing holiday in Lanzarote? Mr Caladine returned from surfing in Lanzarote last week and received one of our automated feedback e-mails, here are his observations:
Have to say that everything about the trip was pretty much excellent and I have no problems with any of it.

Accommodation: Excellent apartment though the mattresses were unusually rock hard (a comment I heard from other people in different appts!) Had everything I needed in and were ideal for the conditions (remained cool without air conditioning etc.) They are well placed in the centre of Famara … Continue Reading
